The 4th European Championship in underwater spear fishing in 1957. was organized by our club “Udica”. This Championship was later declared by CIPS (Confederation International de la Pesce Sportive) as a First World Championship in underwater spear fishing and from that time the CMAS (CONFÉDÉRATION MONDIALE DES ACTIVITÉS SUBAQUATIQUES) counts the sequence of World Championships.

On the New Year's eve 1959. the members of the “Udica” club organized a competition in underwater spear fishing and the next year we invited few other towns to participate the competition. That year 1960. we count as a beginning of the competition which was named the New Years Cup of Towns, the most well known international competition in the World (except the World Championships and European Championships) with 37 consecutive competitions (except 1965). In the 1965 we invented the Winter Cup of Nations instead, but the next year 1966 both competitions were organized until now.

During that period, according to our statistics, 1400 competitors from 31 countries took part in those competitions. We do keep record of all of them.
Ceremonial meeting of the“Udica” club, May 29th 1998. included the promotion of the new issued book - 400 pages - “Fishing on the island Losinj” (statistics about our New Years` competitions in Mali Losinj, European cups 1978.-1996. and all World Championships since the first 1957 in M. Lošinj. The book is sent to all National Federation whose competitors participated in competitions organized by “Udica”.
Some articles have short supplement about the content in English, French, Italian and German language. All details about those competitions You will find from page 90 to 202. There You will find nearly all NAMES in that sport in Europe since 1960.
In this way we also inform sportsmen and clubs, whose competitors participated in these events and would be interesting to get it, that they can order the book from “Udica”.
